Contrast Hydrotherapy: Hot AND Cold-Pack It On!
Contrast hydrotherapy – where a patient alternates cold and hot compress applications – has been shown to help stimulate healthy thyroid function. Additionally, the compresses can help swelling or soreness associated with inflamed glands.


Directions
- In a medium-sized bowl, prepare a bath of ice water.
– In a separate bowl, prepare a bath of hot water.
– Dip a washcloth or small towel into the iced water, wring it out, and place on the affected area.
– Leave on area for one minute.
– Using either the same or separate towel, dip into the hot water, wring out excess water and place on the affected area.
– Leave on area for three minutes.
– Repeat three times in one sitting, and repeat the entire process 2 to 3 times per day (or as needed).
Alternative: For the heat compress, you may add castor oil to the affected area for additional treatment.
